New Coalition Launched to Impact School Funding Debate
The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) and the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) have launched a statewide coalition to impact the outcome of the special session on school finance.
The Coalition to Invest in Texas Schools will help to increase awareness of the top priorities for legislators when they return to Austin this spring for a special session: education quality and increased education funding. The 7,300 members of TASB and 2,000 members of TASA plan to work in concert with teachers, parents and business leaders to build awareness of the issue.
The Coalition's
Web site: www.InvestInTexasSchools.org provides a broad range of information and studies on school funding
for
both the public and decision-makers.
The new Web site includes the following sections:
- Take Action: Communicate with your community or legislator on Texas School Funding.
- Library: Read the latest reports, analyses and proposals.
- School Funding 101: Learn more about our current school funding system.
- Texas Progress Report: Learn about the positive effects of additional funding.
- Legislative Information: See the latest communications and resources produced by the Coalition to Invest in Texas Schools.
- Press Center: Find media advisories, press releases and other resources for media.
Plus,
each week, the Coalition to Invest in Texas Schools will provide
the
opportunity for school officials' voices to be heard in its "Spotlight on Schools" section.
This week, Pasadena Independent School District Superintendent
Rick Schneider is featured.
In coming weeks, this e-mail newsletter will cover timely topics related to today's school funding debate. We strongly encourage you to pass along this e-mail newsletter to others who may be interested.
